Pont Neuf Transformed Into a Giant Cave-Like Art Installation in Paris
The iconic Pont Neuf in Paris has been dramatically transformed into an immersive art installation by French artist JR.
The bridge, usually known for its elegant stone arches over the Seine, has been wrapped in a monumental structure that turns it into a vast artificial cave. The installation, titled “La Caverne,” was created as a tribute to the legendary artist duo Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who famously wrapped the same bridge in 1985.
A massive immersive experience
The installation is striking in scale:
- 120 meters long
- 20 meters wide
- Between 12 and 18 meters high
Visitors walking through it are meant to feel fully immersed in a surreal, rocky cavern environment in the heart of Paris.
Soundscape by Daft Punk member
The experience is not only visual. The sound design was created by Thomas Bangalter, adding atmospheric audio effects that enhance the feeling of being inside a living cave.
Open to the public for a limited time
From June 6 to June 28, visitors can walk through the installation for free. The work temporarily transforms one of Paris’ most historic bridges into an experimental art space blending architecture, nature-inspired design, and sound.
Art that reimagines a landmark
By reshaping a familiar monument into something entirely unexpected, “La Caverne” continues Paris’ tradition of large-scale public art interventions — turning everyday urban spaces into immersive cultural experiences.

Experience Bruges Like a Local: Beyond the Tourist Crowds
Bruges is the crown jewel of West Flanders and one of Europe’s most visited historic cities. Often called the “Venice of the North,” it attracts millions of tourists every year thanks to its medieval canals, cobblestone streets, and remarkably preserved architecture.
But with popularity comes crowds — especially around the city’s main squares, canals, and landmark museums. For those who want to experience the city differently, there are more authentic ways to discover its hidden side.
Discover Bruges on two wheels
One of the most immersive ways to explore the city is through a guided Retro Bike Tour, led by a local guide who takes you beyond the usual postcard spots. Instead of following the typical tourist routes, you cycle through quiet streets, hidden courtyards, and lesser-known corners of the historic center.
Along the way, the guide shares stories that bring Bruges’ layered history to life — from its medieval golden age to its modern cultural revival.
A taste of local secrets
The experience typically ends in a hidden garden setting, away from the busy city center, where participants enjoy a small tasting of local products. It’s a relaxed moment that contrasts sharply with the busy tourist hotspots just a few streets away.
Before you leave, you also receive insider tips — almost like a local “doggy bag” of recommendations — helping you continue exploring Bruges beyond the obvious highlights.
A different way to see a famous city
While Bruges is undeniably one of Europe’s most visited cities, experiences like these offer a more personal perspective. Instead of simply seeing the city, you get a feel for its rhythm, its quieter corners, and the everyday life that often gets lost in the crowds.

Rare Late Snowstorm Brings Perfect Ski Conditions to the Alps in Mid-May
The Alps are experiencing an unusual late-season winter outbreak, turning parts of the region back into a snow-covered landscape despite spring conditions just days ago.
While temperatures in lowland areas recently reached around 25°C, the mountains have shifted dramatically back into winter mode over the Ascension Day weekend. In some areas, snowfall could reach up to 1 meter, with snow even falling down to valley levels.
Ski resorts across France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland have reopened slopes, with skiers and snowboarders enjoying what meteorologists describe as exceptionally rare conditions for mid-May.
At elevations around 1,200 meters, significant snow accumulation has already been recorded, with forecasts predicting even more snowfall in the coming days. Saturday is expected to bring the heaviest conditions, with snow potentially reaching down to 800 meters and even affecting parts of southern Germany.
A rare event not seen in nearly 20 years
Such a late and intense winter episode is highly unusual. The last comparable event occurred in 2007, when large parts of the Alps and southern Germany briefly turned white in mid-May. However, some forecasts suggest that this current cold spell could even exceed those snowfall levels.
“Ice Saints” weather pattern
Meteorologists link the sudden temperature drop to a well-known seasonal phenomenon called the “Ice Saints” period, traditionally observed between May 11 and 15. This timeframe is historically associated with a final risk of frost before stable summer weather arrives.
Travel disruptions and safety concerns
Several mountain passes may be closed due to hazardous winter conditions, impacting travel across alpine regions. Authorities are also warning of potential risks in forested areas, where heavy, wet snow combined with fully leafed trees can cause branches to break and increase the risk of local damage.
Despite the disruption, for winter sports enthusiasts, the situation has created an unexpected bonus: fresh powder snow and fully operational ski areas in the middle of May—a rare sight in modern Alpine tourism.

Spain and Morocco Push Forward With Ambitious Europe–Africa Tunnel Project
A long-discussed megaproject linking Spain and Morocco is gaining new momentum, as fresh feasibility studies suggest that a tunnel under the Strait of Gibraltar is technically possible.
The proposed infrastructure would create a fixed rail connection between Europe and Africa, running between Punta Paloma in Spain and Malabata in Morocco. The idea, first mentioned in 1869, has resurfaced multiple times over the past century, but is now being revisited with modern engineering capabilities.
According to the latest design, the tunnel would stretch 38.7 km in total, including 27.7 km beneath the sea, reaching depths of up to 475 meters below sea level. It would consist of two single-track rail tunnels and a separate service tunnel, all interconnected every 340 meters for safety and maintenance.
A recent feasibility study conducted by German tunnelling technology company Herrenknecht confirms that the project is technically achievable, removing one of the key barriers to development.
However, the project remains extremely complex. Engineers have ruled out a road tunnel due to ventilation challenges, meaning the link would be rail-only, similar in concept to the Channel Tunnel between France and the United Kingdom.
If realised, trains could potentially cross between continents in around 30 minutes, dramatically reducing travel time between Europe and North Africa.
Costs and timeline still uncertain
The estimated cost of the project is between €15 billion and €20 billion, although large infrastructure projects of this scale often exceed initial budgets. International financial institutions such as the World Bank and the European Investment Bank have reportedly shown early interest in supporting the project.
Despite renewed optimism, construction is not expected to begin before 2035, with completion potentially between 2030 and 2040 depending on financing and political agreement.
A project with a long history
The concept of a Gibraltar tunnel has been discussed for over 150 years. Early studies began in the late 19th century, with renewed interest in the 1920s when preliminary drilling even took place. Work was later halted due to the Spanish Civil War.
One of the biggest engineering constraints is geography: while the narrowest point between Spain and Morocco is only about 14 km, the seabed there reaches depths of up to 900 meters, making that route impractical. As a result, the planned tunnel route is significantly longer, but more feasible.
If completed, it would become one of the longest and deepest underwater rail tunnels in the world, symbolically and physically connecting two continents.

Warning for Drivers Traveling to France This Summer: Environmental Sticker Still Required
Motorists traveling to or through France this summer should be aware that the country’s low-emission zone rules are still in force. Despite earlier political plans to abolish them, drivers still need a valid Crit’Air environmental sticker to enter many major French cities.
Last month, the French parliament voted in favor of removing the so-called “Zones à Faibles Émissions” (ZFE), arguing that the system unfairly penalizes families who cannot afford newer vehicles. The proposal was strongly supported by right-wing and far-right parties.
However, the Constitutional Council of France has now overturned that decision. The judges did not reject the abolition itself, but ruled that the amendment had no sufficient legal connection to the broader simplification law in which it had been included.
As a result, the low-emission zones remain active for now in cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Montpellier and Lille.
The Crit’Air sticker classifies vehicles according to their pollution levels. Electric vehicles receive category 0, while older diesel cars fall into the highest-polluting categories. Depending on local air quality conditions, certain vehicles may be temporarily or permanently banned from entering specific urban areas.
Foreign drivers, including tourists from neighboring European countries, can also face fines if they enter a restricted zone without the required sticker. French authorities increasingly cooperate with other European countries to enforce cross-border license plate checks.
The system remains highly controversial in France. Critics argue that low-income households are disproportionately affected because they are less likely to afford electric or hybrid vehicles. Environmental groups, however, point to the severe public health impact of air pollution. According to Santé Publique France, poor air quality contributes to around 40,000 deaths annually in France.
Environmental organization Respire welcomed the Constitutional Council’s decision, calling it “a victory for public health.”
For travelers, the message is simple: if you are driving to France this summer, make sure your vehicle has a valid Crit’Air sticker before entering major cities.

Braking for Spain’s New “Super Speed Cameras” Is Becoming Useless
Drivers heading to Spain this summer may want to think twice before speeding. The country is rolling out a new generation of advanced laser speed cameras capable of detecting speeding vehicles from up to 200 meters away — long before most drivers even notice them.
According to traffic expert José Eugenio Naranjo, traditional last-second braking tactics will no longer work. “If you see the camera, you are already too late,” he explained in an interview with COPE.
The new systems use sophisticated 3D lidar technology that creates a real-time three-dimensional image of traffic. Unlike older cameras that measured speed at a single point, these devices analyze vehicle movement, size and type across multiple lanes simultaneously. Cars, trucks and motorcycles can all be identified more accurately, including motorcycles that were previously harder to detect with older systems.
Another major improvement is the ability to monitor several vehicles at once, even in difficult conditions such as smoke, dirt or heavy traffic. Instead of relying on a simple laser beam, the cameras generate a detailed “point cloud” that tracks movement both horizontally and vertically.
But the technology is not only about issuing fines. Spain’s traffic authority, the Dirección General de Tráfico, says the systems are also designed to improve road safety by detecting accidents, stopped vehicles and dangerous traffic situations in real time.
For many motorists, however, the biggest change is psychological. Drivers who previously relied on spotting a speed camera at the last moment and braking suddenly will no longer have that opportunity. With the new systems already measuring speed from far away, the violation may already be recorded before the driver even reacts.

Nordsee-Reisepass – The passport that turns the coast into a journey
A holiday on the North Sea coast is often about small moments: a short walk, a museum stop, a view over the dunes. The Nordsee-Reisepass takes those moments and turns them into a story travellers can follow.
It works like a playful passport. Travellers and locals collect stamps at more than 250 places across Lower Saxony’s North Sea coastline, from museums and visitor centres to natural sites. Some stamping points sit outdoors, slightly off the usual route. They invite people to explore new corners, not just the busy highlights. A simple QR code adds a second layer: short videos explain what makes each place special, and introduce topics like coastal life, climate and biodiversity in an easy, on-the-spot way.
But the passport doesn’t stop at discovery. It has a clear “give-back” loop. The money earned from passport sales is reinvested locally through Green Action Week: a yearly week of planting and community work. In just two years, around 250 participants planted more than 3,700 trees and plants at 11 sites, creating small new green spaces along the coast, including tiny forests and a food forest. These spaces are open to everyone passing by.
This is why it’s a best practice. The project is simple to join, easy to enjoy, and it keeps growing. Travel keeps it alive: each passport bought helps fund the next round of local action, while also spreading visitors more evenly across the coastline.

ReTour – From coastal destinations to places that thrive
In Lithuania’s Klaipėda Region, the Baltic coast is wide and open. Dunes, wetlands and fishing villages sit close together, shaped by wind, water and everyday life. It is a place people come to breathe. But it is also a place that can be fragile, especially when tourism is concentrated into a short summer season.
ReTour is helping the region take a different path. Instead of chasing volume, the project supports a tourism offer that strengthens nature and communities, and keeps value close to home. It is built around regenerative tourism: not only reducing impact, but using travel to restore what makes the place worth visiting in the first place.
The work starts locally. Tourism businesses, community actors and destination partners come together to define what “regenerative” should mean here, in this landscape. They draw inspiration from tested approaches and then try new ideas on the ground in Klaipėda Region. New experiences are being developed and refined, rooted in local nature, traditions and real coastal life, with practical tools that help small businesses measure progress and improve sustainability step by step.
The aim is to make Klaipėda Region thrive year-round. More meaningful experiences. Stronger local livelihoods. Healthier coastal and wetland areas that stay vibrant for generations.
Tourism helps make this possible. When travellers choose experiences that give back, they support local jobs, encourage better visitor behaviour, and help protect the very places they came to enjoy.

Midlands Trail Network – From peatlands to people-powered trails
In the Irish Midlands, the boglands carry a long memory. For decades, parts of this landscape were shaped by peat extraction. Now a new chapter is being written, not with machines, but with footsteps and bike wheels.
The Midlands Trail Network will create a universally accessible walking and cycling route of around 48 kilometres. It connects Athlone to Tullamore, passing places that already draw visitors for nature and heritage, including Clonmacnoise and Lough Boora Discovery Park. Other links connect Lanesborough in County Longford towards the Royal Canal Greenway, helping build a wider network across the region.
The experience is designed to be easy to use and high quality, with new sections and upgrades to existing trails to improve comfort and access. It also invites visitors to notice the landscape’s transformation: cutaway bog areas that have become valuable habitats, with wildlife returning over time. In places, the route sits close to rehabilitated bogland, showing how a former industrial site can become a haven for plants, birds and animals.
Tourism is central to the project’s success. When walkers and cyclists come, they create demand for cafés, stays, guiding and local services. That visitor income supports jobs, helps maintain the route, and keeps communities connected to a landscape that is changing, and worth exploring again.

Barcelona reveals a different atmosphere once the city is seen from the Mediterranean.
Departing from Marina Vela beside Barceloneta and the W Barcelona, this catamaran experience slowly leaves the busy coastline behind and opens towards panoramic views of the city skyline, golden evening light and the calm rhythm of the sea.
On board, music, local tapas and a drink set the tone for a slower Mediterranean escape while the catamaran moves along the coast. Lounge across the front nets, feel the sea breeze drifting through the boat and watch Barcelona slowly transform from the water.
During daytime cruises, the boat stops for a swim in clear Mediterranean waters, while sunset sailings reveal one of the most cinematic views of the city as the sun disappears behind the skyline.
A quieter way to experience Barcelona — somewhere between sea, light and slow coastal living.
Reserve your catamaran experience and discover Barcelona from the Mediterranean.

Iriarte Jauregia feels more like a private retreat than a traditional hotel.
Set inside a carefully restored 17th-century Basque palace, the hotel blends historic stone architecture with quiet contemporary interiors overlooking forests, valleys and rural landscapes of Gipuzkoa. The atmosphere is calm, intimate and deeply connected to nature.
Days here move slowly:
breakfast on the terrace surrounded by misty hills, long countryside drives through the Basque region and evenings shaped by refined local gastronomy inside the palace restaurant. The hotel’s Bailara restaurant offers a seasonal tasting experience inspired by nature and Basque cuisine.
Located between San Sebastián and the quieter inland valleys, Iriarte Jauregia reveals one of the most peaceful sides of the Basque Country — where forests, mountains and historic villages define the rhythm of travel.

Rising from the Atlantic Ocean like a forgotten island, Gaztelugatxe feels almost unreal.
A narrow stone bridge connects the Basque coastline to the tiny rocky islet, where winding stairs slowly climb towards a solitary chapel overlooking the sea. Waves crash against the cliffs below while panoramic ocean views stretch endlessly across the northern coast of Spain.
The atmosphere here feels both cinematic and deeply connected to Basque history — wild ocean landscapes, dramatic rock formations and coastal paths shaped by wind and salt air.
Whether arriving at sunrise, during golden hour or beneath mist rolling in from the Atlantic, Gaztelugatxe reveals one of the most breathtaking coastal landscapes in the Basque Country.

⛰️ Sorteny Nature Park captures one of the quietest landscapes in Andorra.
Hidden in the Ordino Valley, the park is filled with alpine rivers, pine forests and panoramic trails that slowly open towards the higher peaks of the Pyrenees. During spring and early summer, wildflowers cover the valleys while cold mountain air and flowing rivers shape the atmosphere of the region.
The experience here is less about reaching a destination and more about moving through the landscape itself — wooden bridges, narrow forest paths and long silent stretches surrounded by nature.
Sorteny feels untouched, cinematic and deeply connected to the slower rhythm of mountain life.
